For this project our customer required a cradle that could traverse along the outer face of Whitby pier. The main challenge with this project was that the outer face of the pier was sloped and thus required an adjustable projection in order to provide equal reach from the cradle at the top and bottom. The pier was also to stay open for tourism during the maintenance period so the system had to be designed with public access in mind.
In the early stage of the project our engineering team along with the installation team worked together to come up with a system that would provide a safe and efficient method for accessing the entire face of the pier.
Our engineering team then got to work on developing that concept into an innovative solution that met all the criteria from our client. The design process included detailed analysis of what setup could be used in order to provide a large projection while minimising the space utilised on the pier. Our installation team then ultimately provided the customer with the access system that had been designed and ensured that it could traverse along the pier.
