DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF TEMPORARY SUSPENDED ACCESS for KINGS CROSS

This façade replacement project was a live ‘occupied’ environment and its undertaking required due care and sensitivity on behalf of the client and its residents. A number of man-riding cradle platforms in combination with material lifting mono-rail systems were provided as a primary means of access to all elevations - in their entirety - across two neighbouring 20-storey tower blocks.

The cradle platforms were tailored in design for two reasons: Firstly, to address complex temporary works issues and ensure that loadings remained in-keeping with the buildings structural load capacities. Secondly, the platform configuration was modified to accommodate an extended back-guard on the rear of the platform to help encapsulate the works.

The installation was executed by the local London Giraffe Access centre and ongoing engineering support provided throughout the duration of the project from the Design and Engineering team in Grantham. Cradle and mono-rail systems were relocated in-step with client progress until 100% coverage was achieved – ensuring fast effective completion of façade replacement works and tight project deadlines.
